A digital loyalty card can be useful for your business if you simply want to collect stamps, award rewards and track usage of the scheme. When choosing a system, look at customer sign-up, staff stamping, package limits and available notifications. We’ll demonstrate these using stmpr as an example.
What should you look for in a digital loyalty card system?
Choose a reward that guests can easily understand and that your business can afford. Set out in advance which purchases or services earn a stamp, how many stamps are required, and how long the reward is valid for. When choosing a system, don’t just look at the card’s design: staff usability, customer limits and the features included in the package are also important.
Paper card, in-house app or Wallet?
A paper card is easy to introduce, but points are tied to that specific card. With a dedicated app, in addition to development and maintenance costs, guests must also install the app. With a Wallet-based loyalty card, guests can join without a separate stmpr guest app, but you’ll need to check that their device is supported. The right choice depends on how your business operates and your guests’ habits.
How the digital loyalty card works
Customise the card with your own logo and colours. Specify the number of stamps required and clear terms for the reward.
Share the sign-up link or QR code. The customer approves the Wallet save on their compatible mobile phone.
An authorised member of staff scans the guest’s card using their own phone, then credits the stamp in accordance with the shop’s rules.
Once the guest has collected the required number of stamps, they can request their reward. The staff member checks and records the redemption, and the reward is provided by the shop.
Notifications and programme tracking
The notifications and automated reminders available depend on the package selected. A message set up on the control panel can help draw attention to a reward or offer. Delivery and display are also influenced by Wallet, phone and notification settings; delivery is not guaranteed.
The ‘stmpr’ indicator shows the usage of the loyalty programme: sign-ups, stamps issued, rewards redeemed and guest activity. Detailed views and export options depend on the package. The number of stamps alone does not indicate a guest’s spending, the shop’s turnover or the actual return on a campaign. Separate sales data and comparisons are required for these.
Package limits and data management
The Free package allows for up to 15 registered guests, whilst the Start package allows for up to 100. The Bronze, Silver and Gold packages allow an unlimited number of registered guests under normal business use. The limits on notifications, automation and other features vary by package. Please check the Prices page for current fees, trial periods and detailed terms and conditions.
Only collect the data necessary for the loyalty programme to function, and inform guests about data processing. Tailor staff access rights to their specific roles. Permissions and logged activities help with monitoring, but do not replace the need for your business’s own rules. You can find detailed information about the service on the Data Protection page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do guests need a separate app?
The guest opens their card’s dedicated link or scans the business’s QR code, then approves the addition to their Wallet on the connection page. Apple Wallet can be used on iPhones, and Google Wallet on compatible Android devices. A separate stmpr guest app is not required, but the availability of the relevant Wallet depends on the device.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Retrieving a saved Wallet card and recording the stamp are two separate operations. An internet connection is required for server-side verification at the kiosk and to update the Wallet. If the camera cannot read the code, the staff member can also enter the four-digit guest code into the scanner. Before you start, test the local network and the staff procedure.
How do I get started?
First, test the connection, stamping and redemption using a test card. Then start with a small group and refine the rewards based on actual usage. You can view the features and create your card on the stmpr website.
